The Adventures of Black Beauty | 1972
While exploring the surroundings of their new home in Hertfordshire, England (1877), Victoria and Kevin Gordon, the teenage children of widower Dr. James Gordon, find an injured ebony stallion in the woods. While caring for the animal, Victoria develops a strong attachment to it, but is saddened to learn its rightful owner, the elder Mr. Ryder, has claimed it. When fate intervenes and Dr. Gordon, with the aid of the horse's swiftness, saves Ryder's life, Ryder repays him by giving him the horse.
"I suppose he ought to have a name," Dr. Gordon comments after giving Victoria the horse. "Now let's see... Jet?... Swift?" "No they're not right," responds Victoria. "Something that describes him. He's black, and he's very beautiful... (pause) -- Black Beauty!" Stories depict the adventures shared by Victoria and Beauty.
