The Fantasticks composer dies

The composer behind hit musical The Fantasticks has died.
Harvey Schmidt passed away on Wednesday (28Feb18), aged 88.
Together with lyricist/storywriter Tom Jones, he came up with songs like Try to Remember, Soon It’s Gonna Rain, and They Were You for the long-running stage show, which originally debuted Off-Broadway back in 1960 and ran until 2002, making it the world’s longest-running musical.
In 1992, The Fantasticks became the only Off-Broadway production to ever be recognised with a Tony Award – the Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre.
Schmidt and Jones also enjoyed success with their Tony-nominated Broadway shows 110 in the Shade and I Do! I Do!, and they were inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1998.
