The Golden Spiders: A Nero Wolfe Mystery | 1999
Adaptation of Rex Stout's novel "Golden Spiders," featuring detective Nero Wolfe and his assistant Archie Goodwin. Young Pete Drossos seeks out Nero and Archie when a woman driving with a man in a Cadillac, mouths to him, "Help. Get a cop." The woman had pure gold spiders for earrings, so Pete thinks he can get a reward if he can identify the man, who he believes may have murdered the woman. He came to Nero instead of the police, because this was too big too handle alone and he hopes Nero will split the reward 50-50. Nero insists they call Police Inspector Cramer to "trick the police" into finding a corpse. Archie can only reach Inspector Stebbins, who arrives the next day with disturbing news -- the same car has hit Pete, and he is dead. Pete's mother arrives with $4.30 and Pete's final request: "Give Mr. Wolfe the money in the can. I want him to find out who killed me."
