Special that examines the array of music that has grown up around the Mississippi River. Part one travels from the river's headwaters in Minnesota to Iowa, and covers such divergent genres as Scandinavian fiddle, Dixieland jazz, Tex-Mex and Ojibway. Part two, moving from Illinois to Kentucky, showcases gospel, bluegrass and country rock. Part three pays tribute to Southern Fusion from Arkansas to the Mississippi Delta, including rockabilly, Memphis R&B and Mississippi Delta Blues. Part four celebrates Cajun, Zydeco, country and blues.
