The Pacific author Hugh Ambrose loses cancer battle at 48

Author and historian HUGH AMBROSE has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 48.
The writer passed away on Saturday (23May15) in Helena, Montana, according to the New York Times.
Ambrose was best known for writing bestselling World War II history book The Pacific.
He started researching the project with his famous father, historian Stephen E. Ambrose, and took charge of the book when his dad passed away in 2002.
In 2010, the book was adapted into a TV mini-series, which Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks produced. It went on to win eight Emmy Awards.
Ambrose began his career in graduate school at the University of Montana in the 1990s by helping his father research his books including Undaunted Courage, about the Lewis and Clark expedition across America in the early 1800s.
He also worked with his dad on Band of Brothers, which was also adapted into a TV mini-series and produced by Spielberg and Hanks.
Ambrose also served as the vice president of development for the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, which his father helped create.
