Synopsis

Television movie based on the life of Jacqueline Susann, author of "Valley of the Dolls." A look at the triumphs and tragedies of Jacqueline Susann, who grew up during the Depression and tried her luck as an actress in New York City in the 1940s. What she lacked in talent she made up with moxie and with the help of best friend Bea Cole, Susann caught the eye of press agent Irving Mansfield. They married and Susann entered a world of glamour and excess. When Susann drew on her experiences of the 1960s and wrote "Valley of the Dolls," a saga of sex, drugs and scandal, she achieved the celebrity she desired. At the time of her death from breast cancer in 1974, "Valley of the Dolls" was the bestselling novel of all time.
