Synopsis

Telefilm based on the adventure classic of the foppish English nobleman who masquerades as the dashing Scarlet Pimpernel to rescue French aristocrats from death during the Reign of Terror. The Scarlet Pimpernel (aka Percy Blakeney) travels to France with his wife Marguerite to rescue the daughter of a French nobleman and heads for the Vendee where a local aristocrat, Henri, valiantly fights the revolutionaries--led by Gabrielle Damiens, alias Mlle. Guillotine, the French Revolution's most fearless whip-wielding killer. Chauvelin, head of the Secret Police is in disgrace and has taken to the bottle. He is sent to the Vendee by Robespierre to stamp out Henri's rebellion but is held hostage and his men murdered. When Marguerite is captured by Mlle. Guillotine, the Pimpernel tries to save her. Meanwhile, Chauvelin's secret past in the Vendee comes back to haunt him and he is left with an impossible choice.
