Synopsis

Series adaptation of Michael Ende's novel about the fantastical adventures of 12-year-old Bastian Balthazar Bux, a lonely, overweight boy whose mother is dead and whose father is so wrapped up in grief that he barely acknowledges Bastian's existence. Books are Bastian's only escape. When Bastian investigates a mysterious book entitled "The Neverending Story," he is transported into Fantasia, a magical, improbable world of his own making where the solutions to his earthly problems lie like hidden treasures. To find them, all he has to do is keep reading, wondering and believing that anything is possible.

At battle in the medieval land of Fantasia are both divine and malevolent forces: the childlike Empress, who rules in light; Xayide, the despotic teenaged ruler of the Dark City; shape-shifters and werewolves; dragons and gnomes; Dark Knights and drones; and the strange villagers of Woodland, a world of warriors, friends and foes. Hovering over all of the is The Nothing -- a fearsome force that threatens to strip the pages of "The Neverending Story" of its creativity, its very life, leaving only stark, terrifying ... nothing.
