It’s always a nerve-wracking venture to bring new cast members into an existing TV show — especially in unscripted television, when all the onscreen folks have to soar or sink on is their own charisma. But in light of Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera‘s absence from The Voice, NBC was forced to farm for worthy replacements. And last night’s Season 4 premiere, featuring the first turns for new hosts Shakira and Usher, gave us the answer to the pressing question: are these replacements, in fact, worthy?
The stakes aren’t sky-high, as Green and Aguilera will return to The Voice next season. But many were still waiting with bated breath to see how well the newbies filled their shoes.
