Synopsis

Telefilm based on the British series "The Governor," about Helen Hewitt, a tough and ambitious assistant warden at a women's prison, who is struggling to balance the demands of her job and her troubled marriage. When a riot breaks out and one inmate is killed at a neighboring all-male, maximum security prison, Hewitt is called in to help deal with the aftermath. Soon after, she is appointed the first female warden at the institution. But her jubilation at receiving the coveted promotion is short-lived. Hewitt arrives to find the prison in chaos, still reeling from the riot and murder. She takes charge, but her hardline stance with the inmates raises tensions at the prison, eventually even putting her young son at risk.

Hewitt also faces unexpected obstacles, including a staff that doesn't think she is up to the job and superiors who don't want her to succeed. Not knowing whom to trust, Hewitt plows forward with the murder investigation, risking her life and her career not only to uncover the murderer but also to expose a scandalous cover-up within the corrections system.
