It’s finally here! The season three premiere of Empire goes down tonight on FOX, and we can’t wait to see what the Lyons get themselves into this season. Like the first two seasons of the hip-hop drama, we can expect the series to be full of heart-stopping turns, and gasp-worthy moments. But before all of that, here are 5 things you need to know before the premiere tonight.

1. This is how season three will open.

Ok, this is cheating a little bit, but since TV Guide has the season three premiere episode synopsis available, we thought we would just take a quick peak. TV Guide says, “Season 3 picks up with Hakeem left at the altar, Lucious and Anika newly married, and someone falling off a roof during a fight. In other storylines, Lucious wants to make his streaming service a huge success, but his half-brother Tariq becomes a distraction as he leads a federal task force investigating him”

2. A MAJOR character will die.

During last season’s finale, we witnessed Rhonda and Anika’s fight to the death. Just as Andre reached his wife and stepmother, one of the women went plummeting over the edge of the roof to her death. Taraji P. Henson spoke with Extra last month and confirmed that one of the ladies doesn’t survive the fall. But who could it be? (We’re secretly hoping that Anika has met her end.)

3. Even bigger guest stars.

If you only know one thing about Empire, then you should know that the show is known for its multitude of guest stars. everyone from Chris Rock to Naomi Campbell to Marisa Tomei has made appearances on the show (big or small.) Season three, therefore, has to live up to the hype and, as a result, we’ll be seeing, The Cosby Show matriarch Phylicia Rashad, French Montana, Taye Diggs and of course the diva-licious Mariah Carey. Apparently, Diggs’ character Angelo Dubois will be a love interest for Cookie!

4. We’ll see a teenage Cookie and Lucious.

One of the things we love most about Empire are the flashbacks, and this season we’ll get even more of those. According to Deadline, we’ll get to see how Cookie and Lucious first met as teenagers. Now this is something we’ve been waiting for!

5. More amazing music.

Empire has been unprecedented with the amount of amazing original music that it produces along with the series. Though Timbaland has stepped away from the show after leading the music for the first two seasons, songwriter Rodney Jerkins has stepped up and has some real treats for Empire fans. One of the newest tracks, “Need Freedom” with vocals from Jussie Smollett focuses on focuses on the shootings of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, as well the massacre at Pulse nightclub in Orlando and the murders of the Dallas police officers.

The second season of Empire is currently available on DVD.
