Tony Bennett and Harry Belafonte honoured at Jazz Foundation annual fundraiser

Tony Bennett and Harry Belafonte were among those honoured at the annual fundraiser for the Jazz Foundation of America in New York on Thursday (04Apr19).
The singers joined the likes of Quincy Jones and Danny Glover at the Apollo Theatre for A Great Night in Harlem.
Bennett was introduced by actor Ben Stiller as he accepted a lifetime achievement award at the event, staged to mark the anniversary of the death of Revd. Martin Luther King Jr., while civil rights activist Andrew Young accepted an honour on behalf of Belafonte, and recalled how much King relied on the singer and actor’s input and his financial help.
“(Without Belafonte), we might not have even had a movement,” he said.
Bennett also performed at the event, alongside Patti Smith and rapper Common, while the night ended with a blues jam featuring actor Bruce Willis on the harmonica.
