Presidential Debate Gets Big Numbers: An estimated 67.2 million people watched President Obama take on Republican nominee Mitttens Romney in a debate of the ages. Nielsen’s ratings put ABC on top, with a reported 11.2 million total viewers for the 90 minutes of debate time. NBC followed a close second with 11 million and CBS was third with 10.5 million. Americans care about politics! (Only that number is only a fraction of the number of eligible voters, which brings us to a friendly reminder to vote this year, you guys!) [Deadline]
Kate Walsh Goes Autobiographical: After finishing up her stint as the star of Private Practice, Kate Walsh is taking on producing. A multi-camera half hour comedy that was picked up by NBC, was written by Walsh’s current boyfriend Chris Case. The show is said to be loosely based on the personal life of Walsh and Case. Namely, a recently divorced father of two tween boys falls in love with a freewheeling, no-kids-of-her-own lady cop. And–TWIST!–the man’s ex-wife is currently living with his best friends. Yikes! ABC Family Renews Pretty Little Liars: OMG, A & Company have more episodes of intrigue to look forward to–again! ABC Family has renewed its top-rated series Pretty Little Liars for a fourth season (consisting of 24 episodes). Holy scandalous, murderous text messages, Batman! Season 4 is scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2013. [Variety]
Homeland Creators Get Mysterious at CBS: Showtime’s sister network CBS has gotten real hip to the good work that Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon are doing on their show Homeland, so they’ve decided to hop on their gravy train. The network has made a pilot commitment with the creators for an FBI drama called Anatomy of Violence. The project is inspired by Adrian Raine‘s forthcoming non-fiction book, The Anatomy of Violence: The Biological Roots of Crime, and centers on a female FBI agent who starts working with a mysterious psychiatrist with whom she shares a past connection. Sounds like the show is right in these guys’ wheelhouse. [The Hollywood Reporter]
True Blood Gets a Baddie: Things are looking real bloody good for Rutger Hauer, who’s just landed himself a trip to Bon Temps. Hauer has signed on as a regular on the upcoming sixth season of True Blood. His character’s name is Macklyn, an allegedly shady character with a mysterious connection to Sookie Stackhouse and her brother, Jason. Sink your teeth into that, vamps! [TVLine]
