At a time when security in the U.S. is high and everyone is on full alert, the same couldn’t be said for the Internet as the Twitter accounts of CBS shows 60 Minutes and 48 Hours were both hacked on Saturday.
The tweet that raised eyebrows showed up on the page belonging to 60 Minutes with the message: “Exclusive: Terror is striking the #USA and #Obama is Shamelessly in Bed with Al-Qaeda.” It was followed by a link to a website that promotes the ideas of controversial political activist Lyndon Larouche and a post from December of last year. It was then retweeted by 48 Hours.
It didn’t take long for the news network to realize what had happened and a tweet was sent out from CBS News saying: “We have experienced problems on Twitter accounts of #60Minutes & @48Hours; We apologize for the inconvenience; Twitter is resolving issue.” Below are the tweets the two news shows followed up with:
PLEASE NOTE:Our Twitter account was compromised earlier today. We are working with Twitter to resolve.
