Update: ABC Renews ‘Revenge’, ‘Scandal’, Cancels ‘GCB’

ALTUpdate: ABC has also canceled Kristen Chenoweth-starrer GCB and ordered another episode of Scandal, starring Kerry Washington and from Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes.

ABC must be pretty happy with the way things are going, as the network is opting to renew a handful of its existing programs. Two of its most talked about new drama series, Revenge and Once Upon a Time, are coming back for second seasons this fall. Veteran medical drama Grey’s Anatomy will also return to ABC for a ninth season; Nathan Fillion’s high-intensity drama Castle is also slated to return for a fifth season. The network is giving love to its comedy lineup, as well.

Modern Family, which is concluding its third season on Wednesday, May 23, will be back to continue the misadventures of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Delgado-Tucker-Dylan clan. Modern Family‘s Wednesday night partner The Middle has also been given a fourth season. ABC’s comic newcomer Suburgatory has been granted a second season on the network.

As of now, there is no word on the fates of comic greats like Happy Endings, Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23, or dramas like Private Practice and The River. It was also announced that the ABC comedy Cougar Town will be moving to TBS.

Staff editor Michael Arbeiter’s natural state of being can best be described as “mild panic attack.” His earliest memories of growing up in Queens, New York, involve nighttime conversations with a voice from his bedroom wall (the jury’s still out on what that was all about) and a love for classic television that spawned from the very first time he was allowed to watch “The Munsters.” Attending college at SUNY Binghamton, a 20-year-old Michael learned two things: that he could center his future on this love for TV and movies, and that dragons never actually existed — he was kind of late in the game on that one.
