UPDATE: NBC Grabs More Pilots

NBC LogoUPDATE: After picking up four other shows earlier today, NBC isn’t quite finished yet. The network just nabbed two more pilots: The Crossing and Prime Suspect.

The Crossing, formerly known as Reconstruction, is written by Josh Brand (St. Elsewhere) and is set in a Missouri town during the post-Civil War reconstruction. It follows Jason, a soldier who settles in a town that welcomes him as a savior, and according to Deadline, he’s a savior “whether he likes it or not,” which gives a feeling similar to that of a whiny child who was sent to their room for pooping on the floor, rather than a war hero, but that’s neither here nor there. Honestly, it sounds like a fairly original idea and it will be interesting to see how it develops.

On the other side, Prime Suspect doesn’t really sound original at all. On top of having a stupid name, the show will focus on a female detective inside a challenging New York precinct dominated by men. So basically, it’s a show focusing on Deb from Dexter; and we Dexter fans all know how we feel about Deb. And for those of you who don’t watch Dexter, we’ll make it simple. Deb sucks.

EARLIER: After already picking up a whole slew of new shows today, NBC is adding one more: a multi-camera comedy from The New Adventures of Old Christine creator Kari Lizer. According to Deadline, the series is “a workplace comedy about a relationship-challenged woman who, with the help of her co-workers, guides people through unexpected career transitions and downsizings.” In other words, it’s what would happen if George Clooney’s character from Up in the Air had sex with Steve Carell’s character from The Office, broke down the barriers of genetics, and made a baby girl — a big, multi-camera and potentially laugh-tracked baby girl who will probably annoy the hell out of us because let’s be honest, babies may be cute, but damnit they cry a lot.
