Video: New Teaser for J.J. Abrams’ Supernatural Thriller ‘Alcatraz’

J.J. AbramsWe recovering LOST-aholics have been looking for anything to ease the symptoms of withdrawal since May 23, 2010. Thankfully, the great men and women who gave us the show in the first place have kept busy, doing everything they can to feed our cravings. The newest dish to be served is Alcatraz, J.J. Abrams’ supernatural thriller about the notorious Pacific Coast penitentiary.

So far, we’ve had the rapidly improving Person of Interest, produced by J.J. Abrams and starring Michael Emerson (who played Ben Linus back on the island). We’re also enjoying the fantasy-drama Once Upon a Time from LOST writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz—a show that has taken no small-measure to celebrate its creators’ former series (with amazing guest casting and nonstop Easter Eggs).

The newest dish to be served to us is Alcatraz, Abrams’ series about another mysterious island—only this one with a prison…a literal prison. This January, the new thriller series (starring island alum Jorge Garcia) will arrive on Fox. As we can tell from this teaser, it is dressing itself with twists and turns, mysterious characters and complex elements we’ll have to invest six years of our lives to truly understand. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Staff editor Michael Arbeiter’s natural state of being can best be described as “mild panic attack.” His earliest memories of growing up in Queens, New York, involve nighttime conversations with a voice from his bedroom wall (the jury’s still out on what that was all about) and a love for classic television that spawned from the very first time he was allowed to watch “The Munsters.” Attending college at SUNY Binghamton, a 20-year-old Michael learned two things: that he could center his future on this love for TV and movies, and that dragons never actually existed — he was kind of late in the game on that one.
