Vietnam War Story: The Last Days
A trilogy of half-hour dramas in HBO's war anthology series, inspired by true accounts of Vietnam War veterans. In "The Last Outpost," an American outpost, plagued by severe morale and drug problems, is pinned down by a lone enemy sniper. "The Last Soldier" views the same scene from a North Vietnamese viewpoint. The remaining men of an elderly officer are killed in the line of duty. Left with only his impressionable 11-year-old nephew, he is forced to search for reinforcements while trying to keep the boy from turning his fantasy of combat into tragic reality. In "Dirty Work," a CIA agent, his boss and two secretaries frantically shred documents and destroy hardware at the American embassy before their evacuation from Saigon. Each faces a moral dilemma during the final evacuation of Americans from Vietnam.
