WATCH the New Trailer for the Victorian ‘Sherlock’ Special

The BBC released the latest trailer for the upcoming Sherlock special this morning. The trailer shows off a Victorian era Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman sporting an increasingly large mustache), but leaves fans wondering how this 19th century version is connected to the main series canon.

Last year, series co-creator Mark Gatiss hinted at the return of Moritary (Andrew Scott) and in the trailer, Holmes warns, “We all have a past Watson. Ghosts they are the shadows that define our every sunny day.” Could Holmes be referring to some Victorian era version of his arch-nemesis?

While there is no official release date, it’s heavily rumored that the special will air Christmas 2015.
