Cally is a child of flower children from the '60s. She's living in the more realistic, materialistic 1980s, and after 17 years longs to know the mother who deserted her when she was a baby. Her father, Wade, hasn't moved far away from the San Francisco radical commune where she grew up, but Cally is growing restless living in an imagined past. When she meets Sabine, a skittish, wounded artist with a mysterious past, Cally finds herself drawn both to Sabine's intensity and her underlying sadness. Gradually, Sabine warms to the young woman who idolizes her.
