Willa Ford: ‘I didn’t blame 9/11 for my song not taking off’

Willa Ford has moved to clarify the controversial comments she made about the effect the 9/11 terrorist attack had on her music career.
The I Wanna Be Bad singer hit headlines after an interview with Billboard magazine, in which she was asked for her thoughts on why her second single Did Ya’ Understand That failed to chart in the U.S..
“A lot of people don’t realise this, but my second single was released on Sept. 11, 2001. Everything that happened that day froze; the world stood still, as it should have. My second single didn’t do well because anything that launched that day kind of got canned,” she told the magazine.
A Twitter storm erupted following the release of the chat, and the 36-year-old star addressed the scandal in a statement released to People magazine.
“In a recent interview with Billboard, I made a comment about the release of a single by my record label on September 11, 2001, where I stated ‘Everything that happened that day froze; the world stood still as it should have.’ During the past day, other news outlets have taken the liberty to say that I somehow blamed 9/11 for my song not taking off … this could not be further from the truth,” she said.
“It was meant to be an inspirational piece about how the universe sent me in a new and different direction, one that has led me to success and joy in other areas of my personal and professional life.”
Willa was by no means the only artist to release new music on the day of 9/11, during which 2,996 people were killed. Mariah Carey, Bob Dylan, Ben Folds, JAY-Z and Nickelback all dropped new albums on that day.
