Zach Galifianakis’ ‘Between Two Ferns’ Gets Comedy Central Special (With Jon Stewart!)

Zach GalifianakisThere are some web series that work great on the Internet, but are risky choices to bring to television. There are some web series that not only shouldn’t become TV shows, but should be annihilated from the planet Earth altogether. And there are some web series that, no matter what media they’re broadcasting from, are pure, unadulterated gold. Finally, the television gods are recognizing that this latter title belongs to Between Two Ferns, Zach Galifianakis’ mock talk show created for Funny or Die. The long-beloved Between Two Ferns is getting a Comedy Central special, featuring guests Jon Stewart, Tina Fey, and Richard Branson. The special will air on Sunday, May 6.

Galifianakis created the first episode of his web series in January of 2008, with Michael Cera pioneering the role of Ferns‘ tortured special guest. To date, there have been thirteen episodes created; the most recent broadcast in May of 2011 (featuring Will Ferrell and returning guest Jon Hamm).

As there hasn’t been a new Ferns in over a year, some fans might have feared that the days of Fern-hood were behind them, thanks to Galifianakis’ escalating career. But apparently, the star still has a passion for making his actor friends uncomfortable on camera. The Comedy Central Between Two Ferns special will be a half-hour long, and will be subtitled A Fairy Tale of New York. Although an exact time of the broadcast has not been announced, it will be sometime prior to The Comedy Awards, which will air that same night at 9 PM ET/PT.
