Carter is confounded by a patient's inability to get much need medication for AIDS related complications. A woman in a car crash has her life saved by the new student, but things go the opposite way with another patient. News of Kovac's death overseas stuns the ER but hits Carter harder than anyone else as he leaves Abby behind again to go and take care of things abroad.
