Jack and Bobby McCallister, two smart siblings with lots of promise, live under the domineering watch of their single mother, professor Grace McCallister in Hart, Missouri. Her stern methods of parenting have a strong effect on both of their lives, and because of this, one of them will later become the President of the United States. Bobby, the younger brother, is caught up in a power struggle between older son Jack and Grace, but the McCallister boys are soon captivated by a new neighborhood resident, Courtney Benedict, who has moved in with her professor father John.
