Since Juliet has told Jack of The Others' plans for kidnapping the women, Jack has devised a plan to ambush them. He has enlisted the help of Rousseau, who has been gathering dynamite. They plan to use it to set up traps for The Others. Meanwhile, Sayid works on a plan to communicate to Naomi's ship. He has fixed Naomi's phone, but Rousseau's distress signal is using all the channels, and must be turned off at the radio tower. Juliet reveals that a flooded underwater station, called "The Looking Glass" is jamming all signals. Desmond has a vision that Charlie swims down and flips the switch which saves Claire and her baby, but drowns Charlie. Jack wants to put this off for now and just focus on the ambush, but then Karl shows up and says that Ben has changed his mind and is having The Others come early. This means that everything must happen at the same time: three shooters must stay behind to set off the dynamite, everyone else must go to the radio tower, and Charlie must swim down to The Looking Glass. Charlie, who knows his sacrifice will save Claire, accepts his mission and Desmond offers to go with him. He has flashbacks to the moments in his life that meant the most to him, his "Greatest Hits." He writes them down, and asks Desmond to give them to Claire. Desmond changes his mind and says that he will swim down, but Charlie knocks to complete the task himself. Charlie swims down, and surprisingly finds an airlock, not a flooded station. He is thrilled to be alive, but his celebration is cut short when two women come upon him pointing guns at him.
