Claire looks up and sees some tagged birds. She tells everyone that she has an idea that could get them rescued, and recruits Sun and Jin to help her. Charlie is not interested. Unfortunately, Desmond, who is hunting nearby, scares off the birds. In flashbacks, we learn that when Claire was a young woman. she was in a terrible car accident that put her mother in a coma. While caring for her in the hospital, Christian Shephard, Jack's father, comes to visit and wants to take care of all the bills. Claire learns that this man is her father, who she thought was dead. He tells Claire that she should not keep her mother alive for the wrong reasons, and offers to help. Claire is not interested. She is so upset with him for not being part of her life that she doesn't even want to know his name. Back on the island, Claire confronts both Desmond and Charlie as to why they would not help. Charlie convinces Desmond to use his knowledge to help Claire catch a bird. Desmond gets a bird for Claire easily, and then tells Claire about his other visions. Charlie and Claire attach a note to the bird, and send it away, hoping it is being tracked by someone who could help. Meanwhile in the jungle, Kate, Sayid, Locke, Rousseau, and Mikhail are following the map. While walking, Mikhail explains how he got on the island. He says he was brought there by a magnificant man who is not Ben. He also tells them that they wouldn't want to get off the island, because they are not "on the list." He also tells them that he knows exactly who they are. They arrive at a long line of pylons that are working as a barrier. Locke pushes Mikhail through it and he dies. Then, in Locke's backpack, they find some C4. Sayid gets the idea to climb over the pylons, and they do. They find The Others' community of houses and are shocked to see Jack immediately. He is in clean clothes, playing a game of football with Mr Friendly.
