When a fire breaks out at Rockland University, Jim saves a young psychology professor, Eli, who suffers a near death experience and Melinda befriends him when she realizes that he can now hear dead people. She helps him to acknowledge his new gift and use it to help the woman who died in the fire. Meanwhile, Melinda says good-bye to Professor Payne as he departs for his sabbatical.
