The events of the series thus far. Blythe Hunter is a woman scorned. Twenty-five years ago Theodore Crawford left her for another woman. Now, Blythe intends to get her revenge by destroying his career and then his life. In order to accomplish her goal, she enlists the aid of her more corruptible son, Aaron, who poses as a man named Daniel in order to get a job at Theodore's racetrack, The Tides. Blythe intends for Aaron to ruin The Tides from the inside while simultaneously wooing one of his daughters, whose stake in the inheritance Blythe also craves. Then, with the unwitting help of her responsible, doctor for a son, Josh, she will control the other half of the inheritance when Josh marries Theodore's other daughter. But Blythe's best laid plans are damaged in one way or another along the way. The unpredictability of Theodore's youngest daughter, Brooke, makes it difficult for Aaron to get close to the daughter Blythe wants him with, and Josh's ignorance of her designs leads him to be a pawn with near-devastating consequences for his own life. And while Theodore Crawford is a man with everything he could want in the world and a woman slavishly devoted to him, he is nonetheless intrigued when Blythe re-enters his life.
