Season 4 Episodes
Episode 1. The Tattle Tale Heart (Air Date: 09/20/1999)

Eric plans to tell his parents about Julie's secret marriage and pregnancy with Dr. Hastings. Matt is looking for a job and an apartment, while Mary and Lucy try to figure out a way to get his attic bedroom.

Episode 2. Life Is Too Beautiful (Air Date: 09/27/1999)

John tries to make Shana feel more at home as Matt's roommate. Meanwhile, Simon tires, unsuccessfully to play the man of the house.


Eric gets caught up in some sticky issues over gender roles when a girl is getting married to her chauvinist fiancee. The Camdens take a stand against gender apartheid in Afghanistan.

Episode 4. Come Drive With Me (Air Date: 10/11/1999)

Eric and Ruthie shop for a badly needed new car, while Annie and Lucy start remodeling the house. All this activity has the church board thinking that Eric may not need a raise this year. Matt has a talk with a hospital patient that makes him think about a possible career.

Episode 5. With Honors (Air Date: 10/18/1999)

A businessman takes an academic award away from Corey, one of Mary's friends, after learning she is a teenage mother. Matt's friends try to get him to cheat while Simon's friend brings pot into the house.

Episode 6. Just You Wait And See (Air Date: 10/25/1999)

Eric's sister, Julie, is thinking about leaving her husband, and she's nine months pregnant. Lucy goes on a date where the guy insists she drive and pay for everything.

Episode 7. Sin... (Part 1) (Air Date: 11/08/1999)

Mary risks her scholarship by inciting a revolution at school after the girls' basketball coach suspends the team due to poor grades. Eric and Annie have to deal with Simon's discipline at school after he flips someone the bird. Matt considers moving back home.

Episode 8. ...And Expiation (Part 2) (Air Date: 11/15/1999)

Eric and Annie get Mary a lawyer who warns that she could get jail time for vandalizing the school gym.

Episode 9. Dirty Laundry (Air Date: 11/22/1999)

The Hamptons help an elderly Japanese woman who suffered in American WWII concentration camps. Eric tries to return a $20,000 check she made out to the church. Lucy and Mary overhear a converstion between Matt and Shana.

Episode 10. Who Nose (Air Date: 11/29/1999)

Mary flirts with a boy who's also on a mandatory community service committee who has a troubled past. She tries to convince her parents to let her date him. Simon's new friends sniff paint fumes. Shana thinks about moving to New York.

Episode 11. Forget Me Not (Air Date: 12/13/1999)

Ginger arrives looking for Annie's missing father. Meanwhile, Mary wants to date Robbie against her parents wishes. Matt finally realizes that Shana is leaving for New York.

Episode 12. All By Myself (Air Date: 01/24/2000)

After spreading herself too thin, Annie decides to get away for the weekend where she meets a friend who helps her keep things in perspective. Matt accepts that Shana is leaving for New York.

Episode 13. Who Do You Trust? (Air Date: 01/31/2000)

Eric and Annie reluctantly let Mary go out with Robbie on the condition that they double-date with his younger brother Rick and Lucy. Meanwhile, Simon and a friend buy several packs of cigarettes for a class project that will prove how easy it is for young children to buy tobacco.

Episode 14. Words (Air Date: 02/07/2000)

Eric helps new members of the church who have a son suffering from Tourette's Syndrome. Annie finds out that Ruthie's teacher has been calling her "stupid." Matt thinks about ending his relationship with Shana.

Episode 15. Loves Me, Loves Me Not (Air Date: 02/14/2000)

The Camdens are celebrating Valentine's Day along with the twins' first birthday. Mary is allowed to go on a romantic dinner with Robbie, but finds out why he really asked her out. Simon and his girlfriend give each other love bites. Matt meets up with his ex-girlfriend, Heather, even though he is still in a relationship with Shana.


Eric receives a note from a victim of violence asking for help. He encourages those around him to trust in the power of prayer. Ruthie prays for a pony, while Mary and Simon pray for true love. Lucy is mistaken as a teen mother and Matt falls for a beautiful woman.

Episode 17. Twelve Angry People (Air Date: 02/28/2000)

Eric is part of a hung jury. He tries to convince the other jurors of the legal process that they have lost faith in, so that they can reach a fair verdict. Mary accidentally gives Lucy a black eye. Simon and Deena realize that apologizing doesn't erase the past.

Episode 18. Hoop Dreams (Air Date: 04/10/2000)

Mary dreams about playing pro basketball rather than going to college. Simon tells Eric he doesn't want to be a minister when he gets older. Matt thinks about moving to New York to meet up with Shana. Lucy says she doesn't want to be like her mom.

Episode 19. Talk To Me (Air Date: 05/01/2000)

After a woman comes to Eric's office but leaves before sharing her problem, he tries to track her down. He even tries to pump his children for information.

Episode 20. Liar, Liar (Air Date: 05/08/2000)

The Camdens are pictured in the "Family" part of the newspaper. The story, however, is plagued with lies and half-truths about each family member.

Episode 21. Love Stinks (Part 1) (Air Date: 05/15/2000)

Robbie returns and vows to Mary that he has changed his ways. Eric worries that his presence may have something to do with Mary failing to send out college applications. Matt realizes he has feelings again for Heather, just when Shana is coming home for the summer.

Episode 22. Love Stinks (Part 2) (Air Date: 05/22/2000)

Eric and Annie help the kids with their relationships, even as Mary announces that she and Robbie are engaged and moving in together. Matt dumps Shana and elopes with Heather. Lucy admits she has feelings for Andrew.
