Annie begins to show signs of the change of life while Mary returns to New York. Lucy has returned home, but refuses to tell the family why she's back. Through all of the changes, Eric tries to maintain some amount of calm.
Simon defends a bullied classmate at school. But, when the student calls and says that he's planning on killing the bullies, Simon calls his police friends instead of talking to his parents.
Simon decides to date a pregnant woman he met on the bus. A carpenter repairing the Camden's garage fakes an injury.
Eric is having a tough time handling the changes in the family. Annie cancels yet another date without giving him a reason and then tells Eric that she's quitting school. Matt becomes concerned when a patient at the clinic is not getting the care she needs. Robbie sets Lucy up on a date with a friend and discovers that he's jealous. Mary is having problems at the Fire Academy.
Wilson's marriage proposal and a romantic encounter with a firefighter trainee sink Mary into a state of confusion. Annie's advice to a student gets her into trouble with a student's parents. She insists that Eric not be so helpful, but can't seem to get anywhere with the situation.
Lucy tries to tell Mary that she and Robbie are dating, but she can't find the words. Simon runs into Sasha at the Promenade and they discuss their lives since their breakup. Eric's sister, Julie, shows up to tell Annie that she and her husband are getting a divorce. Matt suspects that a friend of his is a victim of abuse.
Mary surprises the family by moving home and doesn't explain why. Annie is so excited to have her home, she lavishes gifts on Mary, which angers Eric, Simon, Ruthy and Lucy.
After Mary and Lucy have an argument, they sit down and try to figure out what went wrong with their lives. Annie realizes that she has overreacted to Mary's homecoming. Robbie meets Joy's father. Featured Music: Joy Enriquez.
Mary and Lucy are ready to move on with their lives and decide to let their parents pick their new boyfriends. Matt and Simon use the twins to meet women. Robbie gets into an argument with Joy over seeing her at the house. Joy's little brother disappeared over two years ago, but Robbie finds the boy's missing dog. He asks for Eric's help to get the boy back.
Annie's father comes for a surprise visit after Ginger claims she needs a break from taking care of him. She's actually having medical tests done and doesn't want to worry Annie or her father.
Annie quits her job without consulting Eric first. The teacher that caused Ruthie so much trouble begins teaching at her new school. Mary discovers that Wilson has moved and left no forwarding address.
Things begin to disappear around the house and everyone starts to blame each other. The bandit turns out to be Ruthie, who is trying to hide her Muslim friend from bullies at school.
Simon convinces his parents to let him go to a party. When he comes home completely drunk, the rest of the kids have to cover for him. Matt gets two letters back from medical school and is too scared to open them. Featured Music: Bush.
A grounded Simon is asked out by a senior at his high school and she's way more than he can handle. Annie's attempts to surprise Eric with romantic Valentine's plans backfires and results in a big fight. Meanwhile, a nosy Mary thinks she's figured out Robbie's romantic plans for Valentine's Day. Matt is on a mission to find a wife before he goes to medical school. He meets a fantastic woman at work, Sarah, but problems arise when they discover that they have very different religious backgrounds. Sarah's father is a Rabbi who becomes very upset that she's dating outside the faith.
Matt and Sarah stay out all night and decide to elope but, they decide to keep it secret. Meanwhile, Mary and Lucy press Ruthie for answers because they're sure she got answers.
Sarah's parents invite the Camdens for Shabbat dinner. Annie frantically tries to cook Jewish food in an attempt to impress them. Simon convinces Matt and Sarah to let Morris come along. Mary manages to fake an illness so she can stay at home with Robbie. Matt tells his father that he's considering converting to Judaism and Eric blows up.
Mary and Lucy visit Buffalo so Mary can pay an un-expected visit to Ben. Mary hasn't told her family she's planning on returning to Buffalo permanently. Meanwhile, Matt and Sarah have their first fight. Eric tries to help by convinces Matt to buy Sarah a fake engagement ring and when that causes the argument to explode, Annie comes to the rescue.
Mary comes home from flight training with Ben and Kevin. Reverend Camden tries to pressure Ruthie into revealing her secrets about Matt and Sarah. He's hoping that they're already married so he doesn't have to face them getting married somewhere other than his church. It's time for the twins to move into bigger beds. An older couple seeks Eric's help with their runaway son, who's 45 years old.
Ruth has a class project that lets her email a Marine serving in Afghanistan, but she becomes concerned when everyone gets a return email but her. Eric calls his father for help in locating the missing Marine.
The wedding is a day away and the families are having problems working out the details. The Rabbi wants Matt to convert before the wedding and leaves Eric out of the ceremony. Rosina left out a few minor details for the rehearsal, such as the fact that there are 100 people in the immediate family. Simon is crushed when Matt asks Robbie to be his best man. Mary and Lucy try to figure out where they stand with their boyfriends.
Sarah and Matt have had it with their father's doubts over the marriage, so they decide to back off and let their mothers handle it. They choose to forge ahead with the wedding hoping that their husbands will come to their senses.
