Eric tries to delay telling his parents about Mary's divorce. Simon's fiancée Rose tries to get him to push their wedding date to an earlier date. Meanwhile, Ruthie pursues a high school boy and Lucy finds that her job as associate pastor is a tougher one than she envisioned, while Martin discovers that a summer fling may have led to a pregnancy.
Martin continues to despair as he waits to find out whether or not he is the father of Sandy's unborn baby. Simon wishes he'd never set the two up to begin with. Meanwhile, Kevin has a scare in the line of duty and realizes he is only focused on becoming a stay-at-home dad, which could jeopardize his family income, as churchgoers are trying to get Lucy pulled from her associate pastor's job.
Simon and Sarah’s relationship takes a new direction, but Eric and Annie are hoping that direction is leading towards a breakup. Meanwhile, Sandy goes to Lucy’s church social hoping to reach an elusive Martin, who is planning a date with Megan, and finally have him deal with her face to face.
Eric and Annie put their feet down when they learn that Rose has moved in with Simon, telling the couple that she should move out, but Rose begins to worry that Simon doesn’t love her when he fails to stand up to his parents.
Matt surprisingly turns up for a visit in Glen Oak and ends up going with Kevin to a kid's party where Kevin entertains dressed up as a furry character.
Simon takes Sandy to the hospital when she thinks she’s experiencing labor pains, at which time she admits to him that she used Martin to bring out the green-eyed monster in him.
Eric and Lucy are thrown for a loop when Sandy’s father gives them an abnormally large sum of money towards helping Sandy out with her expenses. Martin confronts his father about the impending child he’s going to have with Sandy. Meanwhile, Ruthie begins collecting soup labels to help her class buy a computer, while Simon is forced to ask the other family members for assistance when he has money troubles.
Eric must reexamine the situation of Martin and Sandy having a baby together when he learns that his own parents conceived him out of wedlock. Meanwhile, Sandy and her baby are disowned by her parents.
Simon is forced to bow out of Thanksgiving due to school work demands, but Rose takes his place with the family. Meanwhile, Megan's sister, Kelly, begins to spread rumors at school that Ruthie is the relationship wrecker who is having Martin's baby.
Simon begins to fear that his parents had the right impression of Rose all along after he learns she's been keeping secrets. Sandy begins to get comfortable with her pregnancy, but Kevin and Martin get into fisticuffs over Martin's tiresome attitude about his impending role as a father. Meanwhile, Ruthie finally gets the green light to go out with Jack.
The Camdens play out the nativity scene in a church display, and the others take part in various charitable causes for the holidays. Meanwhile, Rose gets an earful from Sandy and the Camdens when she begins to spread bah, humbug sourness to the twins.
Martin tries to coax his reluctant friend against writing a class essay on Martin Luther King, which was already covered in the lecture material, but Martin's teacher and several local townspeople react bitterly to the statement, prompting a wave of hateful words against him and the Camdens.
Sandy goes to the hospital expecting to give birth, but takes a walk when she isn't ready to deliver yet. Simon tries to get Rose to accompany him to the hospital to support Sandy, but when Rose balks, Simon decides they should break up.
Ruthie ends up in detention after sobbing over Martin in school causes her to be late for class, but the detention teacher turns out to be a fun, Gershwin-loving piano player. Students soon begin to get themselves into detention to get their musical fix as music begins to wane in the school's curriculum. Meanwhile, one of Ruthie's friends gets some assistance from the family, while Rose plans the musical details of her and Simon's wedding.
Rose tells Simon that she isn't interested in a church wedding, even the one in which Eric serves as the reverend. Kevin's attempt to bring the family together for a romantic Valentine's Day with Lucy hits a snag when he accidentally doesn't tell Lucy they're joining them for dinner.
A worried Lucy visits a doctor to see if she is pregnant again. Rose fumes at Simon when she learns about his sexual experience with Sandy, while Simon expresses his concerns to Eric over her also not knowing about his near-pregnancy scare.
Simon and Rose go to dinner with Rose's former fiancé, Umberto, only Simon begins to think she still harbors old feelings for him when Umberto is made to feel jealous of him. Meanwhile, Ruthie romantically reconnects with Peter after Eric and Kevin give her new cell phone number to some of her old crushes to help give the phone some use.
Eric and Annie fret when they discover that Simon and Rose are set to wed on the day of Matt and Sarah's medical school graduation ceremony. The bride and groom to be are then subject to an attempt at persuasion so as to change the date or to even elope instead.
Annie and Rose finally begin to bond and make peace following Rose and Simon's wedding shower, but Ruthie and Lucy still can't bring themselves to embrace Rose. Sam and David attempt to get each of the family members to spill their innermost secrets by using milk and Oreos, with Eric, Simon and Kevin all agreeing to put their trust in the twins.
Simon and Rose have it out over the issue of his taking incompletes in all his classes to work more and pay off the cost of her engagement ring. Savannah swallows Kevin's ring, prompting him to try and quickly figure out how to get it back before Lucy notices it's missing from his finger.
As Simon's wedding approaches, the Camdens look back at the kids' childhoods. Simon is hit with some news from Rose about a possible pregnancy, which concerns him greatly, but Rose's parents inform Eric and Annie that this may just be a made-up scheme to keep Simon headed to the altar. Meanwhile, Lucy and Kevin have some baby news of their own, but decide to wait before sharing with the family, and Ruthie gets a new crush by way of Scotland.
Simon and Rose patch things up and go on with their wedding rehearsal dinner, where Matt and Sarah come in as a surprise and tell everyone they're having twins.
