Lacey Farmer is fed up with her dysfunctional family. She decides to run away to Hawaii to try and win a spot on the WaveSync pro surfing team. But it is not as easy as she thinks.
Lacey has problem after problem in Hawaii. Winning a spot on the WaveSync pro-surfing team is not going to be as easy as she thought. When she finally gets busted for stealing her stepfather's credit card, she is left on the streets with nowhere to go.
Lacey has no money to pay Bailey rent, and no money to enter a surfing competition. She decides that desperate times call for desperate measures. Birdie finds out that Dawn is rich, and hiding it. Kai is afraid that her friends are sabotaging her new life and she confronts them about it. Bailey turns out to be a different guy than he appears to be on the surface.
The WaveSync girls have their first competition. The girls all must learn if they have what it takes, in the water and inside themselves.
Lacey moves in and gets Kai for a roomate. Lacey also learns she has to go back to high school. At school, Kai introduces Lacey to her lifelong crush, Vin. But Vin seems to have his eyes on Lacey. Birdie meets a hot GI and asks Dawn to help "occupy" his friend. Justin runs into his ex.
Ray confronts Dawn about having a tape of his night with her. She tells Shoe, who gets the tape back and makes sure Ray doesn't bother her anymore. When Dawn later sees the tape, she happily realizes she didn't do anything with him, since they both passed out.
Shoe fantasizes about Dawn. Kai tells Lacey that she is in love with Vin, worried that Lacey likes him too. Lacey tells Kai she has nothing to worry about, but ends up kissing Vin on the beach. Kai finds out and is devastated. Birdie calls Bailey out on his lie that he isn't surfing because he is still injured. After watching horrible footage of what happened at his last competition, Birdie realizes Bailey isn't surfing because he's afraid.
Shoe tries to talk to Dawn, who is still convinced he is a pervert for touching her underwear. He's so humiliated, he quits his job. When Dawn hears this, she decides to hear him out and asks him to come back. Lacey, feeling guilty about lying to Kai, decides to break things off with Vin. However, it's too late. Kai's friends beat Lacey up, sending her to the hospital. Birdie helps Bailey get over his fear of surfing.
Kai is dealing with the guilt of what her friends did to Lacey. Lacey is dealing with her pain. Bailey prepares to go home. Dawn tries to get a girl interested in Shoe so that she doesn't have to break his heart.
Dawn continues to try and get Shoe a date. Both Marcus and Bailey like Birdie and compete over her affections. Kai finally shows her feelings for Vin, but feels guilty when she realizes Lacey turned him down like she said she would. Now Lacey is in pain and it is Kai's fault. Unable to deal with it, Kai takes some painkillers.
