Season 1 Episodes

In the premiere of this noirish comedy, struggling Brooklyn writer Jonathan Ames (Jason Schwartzman) does his best to moonlight as a hard-boiled private eye after his girlfriend leaves him because of his habitual use of white wine and marijuana. Created by author and graphic novelist Jonathan Ames ("The Alcoholic"). George: Ted Danson. Ray: Zach Galifianakis.

A woman (Kristen Wiig) asks Jonathan to find out if her boyfriend is cheating on her; George is desperate to alter his appearance before a big speech; Ray needs moral support for an alternative medical therapy.

An opportunity to work on a screenplay with filmmaker Jim Jarmusch hits a snag when Jonathan leaves the script in a therapist's office following a one-night stand with the doctor's daughter. Meanwhile, George is surprised to learn that one of his ex-wives is back in town with her obnoxious husband. Oliver Platt guest stars.

Jonathan hopes to mix business with pleasure when he falls for a woman (Parker Posey) whose son had his favorite skateboard stolen. Meanwhile, George is smitten with a young publicist at a restaurant opening, and Ray disappoints Leah by agreeing to be a sperm donor for a lesbian couple. Bebe Neuwirth guest stars.

Jonathan is hired by a lovesick Russian ex-con to find a nightclub singer (Branka Katic) in Brighton Beach so they can rekindle their romance. Meanwhile, George hatches a plan to stimulate his declining magazine sales with women readers.

George begs to tag along on a case when an unhappily married man from New Jersey hires Jonathan to retrieve a sex tape from a female escort who's trying to blackmail him, but the plan hits a snag when Jonathan becomes another victim of the extortion ring. Patton Oswalt guest stars.

Ray is alarmed by the disappearance of the lesbian couple he's helping to start a family; Jonathan warns George not to provoke his rival, Richard Antrem (Oliver Platt), by belittling him in print.
