Second-season premiere has the newly reconciled Hank and Karen hoping to move back to New York City, but Hank's erratic behavior puts a kink in their plan as he winds up in jail and on her bad side.
Hank meets and befriends a legendary record producer while serving time in jail and entertains the notion of writing the man's biography; Charlie is fired when his duplicitous former assistant bad-mouths him to the president of the agency.
Hank begins his stint as record producer Lew Ashby's biographer, and things get complicated when a hooker familiar with both men claims that Hank is the better lover. Also, Karen gets acquainted with a self-help guru; and Charlie wants to represent a porn actress.
Hank and Karen throw a dinner party that turns into a disaster when Hank butchers his marriage proposal to her. Also, there's a chance that Hank may be the father of their friend Sonja's child, and Lew almost winds up sleeping with the fishes after an allergic reaction to sushi.
After Karen spurns his offer of marriage and he walks out, Hank moves in with Lew Ashby, who sets him up for a hot time with a sexy celebrity chef (Meredith Monroe). Also, Charlie hopes to land his new client, a porn actress named Daisy, the lead role in an adult-movie version of "Chinatown."
Hank attempts to track down the mystery love of Ashby's life and later walks in on Sonja's boyfriend in flagrante with a rocker chick he's been mentoring. At the same time, Hank takes a liking to a Rolling Stone reporter who's profiling Mia; and Charlie and Marcy's house is used for a porn-movie shoot, during which he fills in for one of the film's climactic moments.
Hank thinks he's found a potential love interest in Becca's English teacher, who happens to be his daughter's boyfriend's mother; Charlie uncovers a financial secret that Marcy has been hiding from him, one that could prove devastating to them.
Hank approaches Ashby's former lover in an attempt to uncover the truth about the mysteries surrounding their troubled past relationship; while Marcy is detoxing at her mother's house, Charlie plays house with his porn-star houseguest; Karen grills Ashby about his tryst with Mia.
Hank does the unthinkable (for him) and turns down an offer of sex; Karen succumbs to Ashby and agrees to go on a date with him; with Marcy still in rehab, Charlie and Daisy have a bonding moment over the film "Dirty Dancing."
As he worriedly awaits the results of his medical tests, Hank recalls the early days of his relationship with Karen; Daisy considers moving out, and Charlie begs her to reconsider.
Ashby throws a bash in commemoration of the publication of Mia's book; a fresh-out-of-rehab Marcy is blindsided when Charlie informs her that he wants a divorce; Becca has her heart broken by her first love, Damien, whom she catches cheating on her.
Hank puts the finishing touches on his biography of Ashby; unable to find a job as an agent, Charlie takes one at a car dealership; Sonja's baby is born; Hank and Becca are faced with difficult decisions after Karen takes a job in New York.
