Teams of aspiring restaurateurs open two competing eateries under the guidance of celebrity chef Marco Pierre White in the series premiere. The teams are challenged to design a menu, prepare the dishes on it and open their restaurants within 48 hours. Afterward, a food critic weighs in on the teams' performances prior to the first elimination.

The teams reveal their restaurants' names and looks while presenting Marco with a fully dressed table. Later, each team hosts a private party attended by artists, designers and a food critic.

The teams learn about cooking with natural foods. Later, during a one-hour cooking contest, the teams compete for assistance from a top maître d' during the next challenge, in which they're tasked to incorporate natural foods into their dinner service. Their performances are then rated by each diner using a Zagat rating form.
