Nate accidentally picks up the wrong women, Marni, for a blind date and the two of them hit it off even though they eventually figure out that they aren't out with the right person.
Nate finds himself at odds with Marni's parapalegic friend Todd, but tries to appease him for Marni's sake.
When Marni invites herself over, Nate tries to hide his clutter by making her wander around his apartment in the dark. When Marni and Tess go to look at the apartment in daylight, they make a mess of it.
When Nate tries to bring Marni's favorite tea to her at her hospital job, he is inadvertently mistaken for Raoul, the made-up boyfriend she fabricated to wow her co-workers.
Nate learns that Marni's birthday is the next day, and though she says she doesn't want anything from him, he sees her array of presents and decides he needs to do something special. Tess loses her iPod in the garbage chute.
Nate worries about Marni after she misses out on a promotion, but she seems fine after a chat with Carole. Marni suggests Nate speak with her friend Carole and Nate mistakes her for a therapist and unloads all. Tess has a hard time purchasing a cat for Ryan because she decided to use the cash elsewhere.
Marni and Nate decide on escaping the world in an effort to detox from the city and pact to spend an entire week inside her apartment, but they start to break down just a few hours into the agreement. Bowie tries to balance his feelings between escaping his relationship and leaving behind his girlfriend's great bed.
Marni meets Nate's institutionalized mother, Lily, who immediately disapproves of the girl. Marni takes Lily out for lunch and Lily escapes. Tess falls for the new guy in the building but embarrasses herself right off the bat. Tess enlists the Clown to keep an eye out for him so she can try to make it up.
Marni, and Tess convince Nate and Bowie that they should go to the funeral of the statue guy who had stood outside the record store. At the ceremony, Nate inadvertantly takes communion and has a hard time giving it back. Marni invites Tess to try her hair guy who has the power to provide "hairgasms."
Marni believes that Nate mistreated a homeless man who caught him at an ATM. Bowie anxiously awaits the burger that he won in a bet with Nate.
Todd introduces his new girlfriend to Marni and Nate and Marni worries that Natalie is actually the girl Nate should be with. She eventually orders him to take her out. Bowie asks to sing the National Anthem at Tess's PeeWee basketball game, but it turns out he can't seem to sing without grabbing himself.
Nate wakes to find himself hungover from his night out with Todd and in Natalie's bed. Worst of all, he's unsure as to how he got there. Tess's new charge Zach asks her to pose naked after she doesn't rat him out for having an adult magazine. Bowie tries to use a marathon to market his new CD. Only after Nate appears to break up with her does Marnie realize that Nate is the one for her.
