Episode 1. Welcome Back Carter! (Air Date: 09/21/1995)

Carter arrives late for his new position under Benton. The doctors rush to help the victim of a gunshot as they go into labor. Kerry Weaver arrives to start her role as the chief resident.

Episode 2. Summer Run (Air Date: 09/28/1995)

A youthful pyromaniac being tended to in the ER sets the ER aflame when Dr. Ross turns his back on them. Kerry Weaver makes big waves in her first couple days in the ER.


Carter makes a mistake during his first solo surgery. Dr. Ross tries to save an AIDS baby from ill prescribed medicine.

Episode 4. What Life? (Air Date: 10/12/1995)

Benton's anger leads him out of surgery and Carter filling in. Lewis debates what to do with the baby left in her care.

Episode 5. And Baby Makes Two (Air Date: 10/19/1995)

Lewis contemplates adopting Susie. Carter fills in for Benton with good results. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief during Weaver's day off.

Episode 6. Days Like This (Air Date: 11/02/1995)

Victims of a gang shooting are rushed to the ER. Carter has to deal with Harper's confession of sleeping with Ross.

Episode 7. Hell and High Water (Air Date: 11/09/1995)

Dr. Ross leaves his position in the ER and subsequently comes across a child in dire need of help. In his efforts to get the boy to help, he comes across a news chopper and becomes an object of media wonder. Benton, Carter and Harper try to help a young car accident victim.

Episode 8. The Secret Sharer (Air Date: 11/16/1995)

Dr. Ross's televised heroics causes the hospital to ask him to remain on staff. Shephard inadvertantly causes a rift between himself and Carol with his disparaging remarks on suicide.

Episode 9. Home (Air Date: 12/07/1995)

Carter helps the if Benton can get onto Vucelich's study, it will give him a reprieve from his demanding nature. Greene tries to maintain his composure when word of a car accident involving his wife and child comes in.

Episode 10. A Miracle Happens Here (Air Date: 12/14/1995)

Greene tries to handle lawyers dealing with a death in the ER. A reckless zamboni driver lands skaters in the ER. Shep attempts a serious step forward in his relationship with Hathaway.

Episode 11. Dead Of Winter (Air Date: 01/04/1996)

The doctors of the ER try to handle handfuls of wayward children. Shep gets on Benton's badside with a comment about them. Greene receives divorce papers.

Episode 12. True Lies (Air Date: 01/25/1996)

Mr. Rubadoux takes his wife's illness out on Carter. Greene's daughter rebels in response to news of the divorce. Benton is humbled when he needs Vucelich's assistance.


A patient's mysterious death leaves Greene unnerved. Benton questions Vucelich's study.

Episode 14. The Right Thing (Air Date: 02/08/1996)

A relationship rumor spreads through the ER about Greene and Lewis. Benton outs Vulecich's questionable study techniques.

Episode 15. Baby Shower (Air Date: 02/15/1996)

Flooding caused by the sprinkler system bounces bunches of mothers-to-be out of the maternity ward and into the ER. Jerry meets Scottie Pippen, but his friends in the ER are skeptical. Carter spends time with surgical resident hopefuls.

Episode 16. The Healers (Air Date: 02/22/1996)

A fire sends both victims and rescuers, specifically Shep and his partner, to the ER.

Episode 17. The Match Game (Air Date: 03/28/1996)

When Chloe returns, claiming to have pulled her life together, Lewis is reluctant to hand over the baby. Carter learns the details of his residency, but the ensuing happiness is short-lived when a patient in his care is mishandled. Tension rises between Ross and Benton over Dr. Greene.

Episode 18. A Shift In The Night (Air Date: 04/04/1996)

Greene tries to make it through long, understaffed hours on sheer willpower.

Episode 19. Fire In The Belly (Air Date: 04/25/1996)

Lewis and Chloe continue to fight over Susie, with Chloe eventually getting visitation rights. Benton incorrectly diagnoses a cancer patient. Carter gets competitive with the new kid on the block.

Episode 20. Fevers of Unknown Origin (Air Date: 05/02/1996)

Ross and Bentons let bygones be bygones when it comes to saving a hurt little girl. One of Greene's final steps towards his divorce is a final fling with his wife. Ross starts to see his father's employer.

Episode 21. Take These Broken Wings (Air Date: 05/09/1996)

Weaver tries to play ball with Greene by parlaying support for Lewis in exchange for an appointment. Ross enlists his mother's aid in taking care of his take-the-money-and-run father. Shep continues his battle in coming to terms with his partner's death.

Episode 22. John Carter, M.D. (Air Date: 05/16/1996)

Lewis is introduced as the new chief resident alongside the new attending physician Weaver, but Lewis turns it down. Jeanie learns that Al is HIV-positive. Carter foregoes his graduation in order to take care of a child. Nurse Hathaway resigns.
