Season 3 Episodes
Episode 1. Dr. Carter, I Presume (Air Date: 09/26/1996)

Carter's surgical internship is interrupted as Fourth of July accident victims cause a return trip to the ER. Benton and Jeanie find out their HIV status. Hathaway rejoins the ER team for the paycheck.

Episode 2. Let The Games Begin (Air Date: 10/03/1996)

The rumormill spins out a doozy... that the hospital may be closing. Jeanie tries to balance her HIV positive status with her work and personal life.

Episode 3. Don't Ask, Don't Tell (Air Date: 10/10/1996)

A new intern comes aboard. The new chief of staff rubs the ER personel the wrong way. Benton joins forces with a pediatric surgeon. Weaver discovers that Jeanie is HIV positive. Carter's apartment building burns down.

Episode 4. Last Call (Air Date: 10/17/1996)

Carter takes temporary shelter with Gant. A wild night on the town ends poorly for Dr. Ross. Dr. Keaton praises Carter for his compassion and chastises Benton for his lacking.

Episode 5. Ghosts (Air Date: 10/31/1996)

A costumed Frankenstein comes in with a gunshot wound. Ross and Hathaway take the Healthmobile duty for the night. Gant believes Benton is being tougher on him than on Carter to prove that race has nothing to do with his evaluations.

Episode 6. Fear Of Flying (Air Date: 11/07/1996)

A family is brought to the ER by helicopter. Benton's hubris in surgery may lead to a child's lost life.

Episode 7. No Brain, No Gain (Air Date: 11/14/1996)

Benton works tirelessly on an already dead gang member. E Ray thinks he's suffering from negativity as resulting from an MRI exam and needs it undone. Nurse Rhonda steps on Hathaway's toes. Carter questions a patients ability to make his own decisions.

Episode 8. Union Station (Air Date: 11/21/1996)

Charlie returns to the healthmobile. Mark tries to find the courage to admit his feelings for Susan as she prepares to leave. He finally does, at the train station, but she still leaves for Phoenix. Grabarsky marries a Nurse Lydia in the ER.


When Greene treats Al, he's suspicious of Jeanie's condition. Ross tries to help Hathaway in her pre-med quest.

Episode 10. Homeless For The Holidays (Air Date: 12/19/1996)

With rumors running around the ER, Jeanie decides to come forward with her HIV status. Charlie looks to Ross for help with a sick baby. Greene inherits a dog from a dying homeless man.

Episode 11. Night Shift (Air Date: 01/16/1997)

Jeanie signs on to a study involving people who work night shifts. Charlie wants more of Ross's help. Benton lets loose on Gant with disastrous repercussions.

Episode 12. Post Mortem (Air Date: 01/23/1997)

Hathaway has to be in too many places at once when the nursing staff strikes. Carter and Benton have different ways of dealing with Gant's death. Ross refuses Charlie's request that he become her legal guardian.

Episode 13. Fortune's Fools (Air Date: 01/30/1997)

Carter seeks a new doctor to shadow when Benton stands him up for a presentation. Carol is suspended when she seeks to air the truth of her involvement in a patient's death.

Episode 14. Who's Appy Now? (Air Date: 02/06/1997)

Carter begins his work under Hicks. Benton becomes a patient in the ER. Greene tries to juggle multiple women... unsuccessfully.

Episode 15. The Long Way Around (Air Date: 02/13/1997)

Hathaway is caught inside a convenience store robbery which becomes a hostage situation and must rely on her medical knowledge to keep people alive until the situation is resolved.

Episode 16. Faith (Air Date: 02/20/1997)

Benton returns to work. Carter picks up some of the shifts left vacant by the deceased Gant and finds a potentially costly mistake. Greene fights for a heart transplant patient and Ross contends with one that wants to die.

Episode 17. Tribes (Air Date: 04/10/1997)

Two shooting victims are brought into the ER and Greene has to handle racial prejudices as the white gunshot wound victim is a crack dealer and the black gunshot wound victim is a star basketball player. Carla enters the ER with minor car accident injuries.

Episode 18. You Bet Your Life (Air Date: 04/17/1997)

Greene juggles parental responsibility to Rachel and his career. Carter gets probation for securing Hicks surgical services after Anspaugh. Benton offer Carla financial assistance for their baby.

Episode 19. Calling Dr. Hathaway (Air Date: 04/24/1997)

Hathaway passes the MCATs but debates whether she'd prefer being a doctor over being a nurse. A mouse escapes the lab and hides in the ER. Carla's diabetes makes Benton worry about their unborn child's risks. Carter ponders outing Edson's mistake to Anspaugh.

Episode 20. Random Acts (Air Date: 05/01/1997)

Greene is confronted by the brother of a man who died under his watch and suspiciously attacked in the bathroom later. Jeanie tries to convince Al to join an AIDS study. Carla seeks a new birthing coach when Benton isn't supportive enough.

Episode 21. Make A Wish (Air Date: 05/08/1997)

Carla and Benton's baby is born premature and the tension threatens their good relations. Ross helps give Hathaway a surprise birthday. Greene returns to work after some recovering from the beating he received in the bathroom.

Episode 22. One More For The Road (Air Date: 05/15/1997)

Greene takes his frustrations out on the doctor's lounge and then on the El. Benton's baby requires life-saving surgery. Jeanie and Al reconcile as things start to happen between Ross and Hathaway.
