In the series opener, three New England women (Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price, Jaime Ray Newman) make a wish for their lives to change. The mysterious Darryl Van Horne (Paul Gross) then arrives in town and helps them discover their untapped powers. Based on John Updike's novel and the 1987 film "The Witches of Eastwick."

Joanna and Penny try to unearth Darryl's real identity by talking to a retired reporter (Martin Mull) and a reclusive eccentric (Cybill Shepherd). Elsewhere, Roxie tries to protect Mia from her ex-boyfriend, and Kat hopes to end her bad marriage.

Roxie questions her sanity when she's haunted by a ghost, and Bun becomes fixated on a curious symbol. Meanwhile, Kat declines to use a high-powered divorce lawyer Darryl recommended, and Joanna uncovers a new scandal while digging up dirt on Darryl.

Joanna's ex-fiancé makes a surprise visit just as she's about to go out with Will. Elsewhere, Roxie takes Darryl's suggestion and does some digging on her neighbor Jamie, while Kat finally accepts the help of Darryl's divorce attorney.

An unusual celestial occurrence affects the ladies. The results include Kat fulfilling a longtime fantasy on top of a piano, Roxie and Mia winding up in an embarrassing situation with Chad and Josh, and Joanna printing a story that gets her into trouble.

The town celebrates Halloween, its most cherished holiday. Meanwhile, Roxie has visions of a funeral; and Kat tries to help a depressed and unemployed Joanna win Will back.

Joanna is questioned about her kidnapping ordeal by her replacement at work. Meanwhile, Kat realizes Bun's old pal Eleanor (Cybill Shepherd) may have some helpful info; and Roxie tries to fulfill the last wish of someone close to her.

Darryl hosts an art show of Roxie's work, and he invites a New York art maven (Rosanna Arquette) to attend. Meanwhile, Joanna taps into her powers to get her life back on track, but she regrets the consequences; and Kat backs off from pursuing Will.

Roxie's mother (Joanna Kerns) visits, leading Roxie to realize she has another new power. Elsewhere, Darryl tries to persuade Kat to use her healing abilities on his ill friend; Joanna attempts to get back into writing; and Jamie joins forces with Bun and Eleanor.
