On her way to visit her grandfather Vic in a retirement home, Leanne disappears leaving her daughter and son alone in the van. By the time the police arrive, the children have disappeared as well and Detective Iain Barclay and Sergeant Amy Foster begin the search for the children and their mother. Leanne's husband Matt waits at home for news. The next day Matt awakens to news on a lead from the retirement home.
Ethan is safe at home and the police continue to search for Leanne. Josh visits Vic at the nursing home to get more background information. Tops wants Matt to make a public appeal for the cameras, but he refuses. Hazel finds suspicious information on Kyle's computer and the police question him. Josh finds Rosie and Matt rushes to the hospital to see her.
Leanne has been missing for 28 days and the police are now investigating her case as a murder even though they haven't found a body. Matt is still trying to figure out if Rosie was molested.
Barbara finds Matt going through pictures and talking to a reporter and is furious. Jim supports Tops in her marathon. Foster and Barclay continue working on the case by investigating the connection between Kyle and the flower seller.
The discovery of a burnt-out van reignites the investigation. Police stake out Hazel's home. Amy attends her retirement party.
