Liberal Chief Deputy District Attorney Camille Paris clashes with her boss, conservative, African-American newly elected District Attorney Lora Gibson over how best to handle a drug trafficking case.

Though Camille and Lora are at odds over budget cuts, they're united in going after a surgeon whose malpractice led to a colleague's death. Meanwhile, Anita tries to expose a car-crash-fraud con.

Episode 3. Lonely Hearts (Air Date: 08/04/2002)

As Camille goes after a professional Lothario who may be killing wealthy women, Lora tries to prevent the political assassination launched against an old friend. Also, Camille turns to a dating service to meet new men.

Episode 4. To DNA or Not to DNA (Air Date: 08/11/2002)

As Camille and Lora struggle to decide whether to go for the death penalty in a murder case involving a drug dealer and DNA evidence, Michael and Anita clash on a case in which a mother uses an extreme form of discipline on her daughter.

Episode 5. Pawns (Air Date: 08/18/2002)

In deliberating over the case of a celebrity caught soliciting, Lora struggles to balance her own ideals with the greater good. Camille seeks to prosecute an alleged child abuser until she learns of the motivations of the child's vindictive mother.

Camille looks into the suspicious death of a whistle-blower about to expose a cover-up at chemical plant whose female employees have serious health problems. When she encounters a young girl trapped in gang life, Lora must decide whether to maintain her no-tolerance approach to crime.

Camille suspects the judge on one of her cases may be attracted to the defendant's wife and is basing his decisions on that. Also, Lora and Michael clash when she refuses to back off on a "three strikes" case in which a woman faces life imprisonment for holding drugs belonging to someone else.

Jennifer tracks down an internet baby broker who may be cheating hopeful parents out of their money and hopes. Meanwhile, Camille investigates an accidental homicide committed by the suicidal daughter of a very successful attorney who's also a longtime associate of Lora's.
