Ever-busy parents Rip and Raquel Smashenburn attempt to make time for their kids, Alice and Billy, while juggling two careers and conclude that getting a pet for the house could be the way to re-bond and bridge the communciation gap.
While Alice becomes hugely popular at school after winning a volleyball trophy, Billy has feelings of inadequacy, and Turbo begins to use the situation to his advantage.
Raquel tries to juggle the demands of being a mother and an agent when she takes on the task of designing costumes for Billy's school play. Meanwhile, Alice is attracted to Rip's friend, Zeke, while Turbo gets in over his head with a drinking problem.
Rip takes Billy on a father-and-son camping excursion after worrying that the modern world is robbing him of any genuine passion. Meanwhile, Turbo has a difficult time while attempting to split up with his girlfriend, and Alice's interest in eating some trippy magical cookies has Raquel a little concerned.
Alice tries to show her parents the futility of the C.A.T. exam by purposely doing poorly on it. Meanwhile, Rip tries to teach Billy how to woo women when he has his first feelings of love for a foreign exchange anime girl.
