As Rory tries to figure out the meaning of the curious gift Logan left for her, Lorelai copes with ending her relationship with Luke and her mixed feelings about sleeping with Christopher.
Luke tells T.J. and Liz about breaking up with Lorelai and they quickly become sympathetic; Lane comes back from a bad, bad honeymoon; Lorelai runs into Luke in town and he makes it clear that he's mad at her; Lorelai tries to cheer up Rory by decorating the house with an Asian theme; but when she is overcome by grief about Luke, mother finally tells daughter what happened, only, Rory is enraged by the news that Lorelai slept with Christopher.
Lorelai realizes that she has always done the opposite of what her parents wanted and that some of those things weren't really so bad; Rory and Logan have some trouble maintaining their long-distance relationship; Christopher reveals a bombshell to Lorelai.

Christopher and Lorelai surprise Rory at Yale during parents' weekend and learn some things about their daughter during a lunch filled with too much alcohol. Meanwhile, Luke takes an adult swimming class and asks out the instructor, who just happens to be April's swimming coach.
Rory steps down as the Yale editor and ponders her future... as an actual adult. She's depressed even more when she runs into an old friend, Marty, who happens to be Lucy's boyfriend but pretends he doesn't know Rory; Lane tells Mrs.
Lorelai contrives to get Rory over for dinner so that she and Christopher can drop a bombshell on their unsuspecting daughter: they got married in Paris. Meanwhile, Rory writes a scathing review of Logan's internet company's launch party, prompting her to move out of his apartment. And, Luke needs Lorelai to help him when April has a medical emergency.
Christopher tries to fit in with the Stars Hollow regulars, but his well-intentioned act at the annual Knit-A-Thon causes the event to come to an abrupt end. Meanwhile, Rory confronts Marty; and, Luke gets in Anna's face after learning of her plans to move with April to New Mexico.

Rory goes to meet with an editor from the New York Times, just as she starts to put together Lane's baby shower. Lorelai takes over the production and has to arbitrate a disagreement between Lane and Mrs. Kim about how to raise the unborn child. Meanwhile, Luke decides to change his situation in life and buy a new boat; Logan comes home drunk and reveals to Rory his failed business venture, and then runs off to Las Vegas with his buddies.
Lorelai and Rory are joined by Emily on a road trip to their friend Mia's wedding. There, Emily fumes over Mia's relationship with her daughter and granddaughter; Rory confronts Logan over his buffoonery after his internet business troubles. Meanwhile, Zach seeks out Luke for advice on how to be a parent and adopts him as a surrogate father, just before Lane delivers her baby.
It's the Stars Hollow Spring Fling festival, and Taylor has gummed up the whole affair by blowing the budget on a ridiculous hay bale maze. While wondering through the maze, Luke and Lorelai run into each other and admit their mistakes in their relationship.
Luke and Lorelai start spending more time together, but it is tense and awkward, though Lorelai takes that as a good sign. Meanwhile, Paris receives acceptance letters from practically ever medical and law school she applied to, while Rory receives a shocking rejection letter from the New York Times.

Emily and Richard throw Rory a graduation party, where they sing for her "You're The Top." At the same party, Logan proposes to Rory in front of all her friends and family, but she hesitates to answer.
Rory meets her idol, CNN reporter Christiane Amanpour just before she gets a job as a reporter following Barack Obama's presidential campaign. But she has to start right away, meaning that she and Lorelai won't be able to go on their trip to various amusement parks.
