Episode 1. Game Theory (Air Date: 01/07/2004)

Joan debates about whether to apply to college and starts seeing a tutor; Beth breaks up with Kevin.

Episode 2. Only Connect (Air Date: 09/24/2004)

Joan returns from several weeks at a special camp meant to rehabilitate her from her "hallucinations" and attempts to ignore God, trying to get back to normalcy; Adam revises his beliefs and confides in Joan that he thinks God may, in fact, have been appearing to her; Helen seeks out the help of a former nun; Grace tells Luke to keep their romantic life under wraps.

Episode 3. Out Of Sight (Air Date: 10/01/2004)

Joan's friend from camp shows up and Joan starts acting recklessly.

Episode 4. Back to the Garden (Air Date: 10/08/2004)

Following God's advice again, Joan convinces her lab group to plant a garden under the school's bleachers.

Joan adopts a cat, at God's request; Helen reluctantly offers to house her fiercely independent aunt who is recuperating from a disabling stroke.

When student elections going on at school, Joan tries to help the underdog win and starts following his jock opponent around in order to find some dirt; she ends up finding out that he is gay.

Episode 7. Wealth of Nations (Air Date: 10/29/2004)

When Joan helps out at a church clothing drive, she and Judith decide to sell some of the clothes they find, but Joan's intentions end up being misunderstood.

Episode 8. POV (Air Date: 11/05/2004)

Joan is furious when she starts to believe that Judith is trying to come between she and Adam.

Episode 9. Friday Night (Air Date: 11/12/2004)

Joan and Adam go on their first real date; Judith is assaulted when a drug deal goes bad.

As Joan tries to deal with Judith's death, she also has to face reliving the day of Kevin's accident during his deposition; Luke tries to convince Grace to come to his birthday dinner.

Grace reluctantly agrees to have a bat mitzvah; Beth is deposed for Kevin's trial.

Joan and Luke decide to try out for the school's diving team in order to overcome their fears.

God urges Joan to try out for the school musical; Adam ends up designing the play's set; Andy decides to drop the lawsuit against the Girardis.


Joan saves the life of a classmate and is branded a hero by her. But being a hero is not the positive experience Joan thinks it will be at first.

Joan is forced to spend a weekend performing community service after she is wrongfully accused of egging Price's car.

Joan prepares to prosecute a case in a mock trial at school, while at the same time planning a special night for her one year anniversary with Adam.

Episode 20. Spring Cleaning (Air Date: 04/08/2005)

Joan winds up in the middle of a scandal concerning her guidance counselor after God tells her to do some therapeutic cleaning.

Episode 21. Common Thread (Air Date: 04/15/2005)

Joan regrets rebuffing Adam's attempts to reconnect with her when he goes missing while on a hike.


Joan must come face to face with the dark side of the charming Ryan Hunter after he insinuates himself into her family's life.
