Maxine criticizes Amy for ruling that an emotionally distraught girl is competent to serve as a witness in her mother's murder trial; Kyle has to give medical treatment to a drunken driver who killed one of his co-workers on the road; when Lauren receives a poor grade in math she blames it on the teacher.

When a woman leaves her children at home alone while she is at work she tries to regain custody of them; Kyle gets emotionally involved with the birth of a child who's mother is in jail.
