The Sutton kids start their first day of school. Racial violence occurs at Cassie's school. Eddie is injured in the chaos and Jenn is worried about the safety of her children.
Cassie finds herself wanting to get closer to Charles. With Eddie homebound due to his injury, he tries to set new rules at home and realizes that Tay might be getting into some trouble with internet chats. Meanwhile, Jenn takes a greater interest in her community by looking into working at the local clinic, instead of the hospital, where she feels underappreciated.
In hopes of helping her community, Jenn starts a new job at the local clinic with Dr. Mario. Lund's estranged daughter, Sage comes to town and befriends Cassie.
Eddie is finally healed from his injury and is excited to get back to work, but his excitement lessens when he learns that his in-laws, Coleman and Beverly, are in town for a visit.
Cassie loves her new job at the Revolution Coffee Spot and is getting closer to her boss Luc. But when Luc helps Cassie with her art, Charles feels like he's being driven away. Meanwhile, tensions are high on the streets of Lincoln Heights when another shooting occurs, suspected to be gang related. Eddie and Lund decide to try and bring some peace to the neighborhood by organizing a basketball game with the rival gangs.
Cassie has a hard time getting over Charles and doesn't quite understand why he broke it off, but her spirits rise when Luc gets her art in a real gallery showing.
Eddie’s troubled father Spencer is just out of jail and is staying with the family to get back on his feet. But, when Spencer visits the clinic, memories of his wife’s murder by a gang member come flooding back when he thinks he recognizes the man who killed her and vows revenge all these years later.
Lizzie arranges a charity talent show at the Revolution Coffee Spot, but the competition heats up when Cassie and Sage vie for Charles' attention. Meanwhile, Jenn starts a support group for the women in the community whose families have suffered from all of the gang violence. And, Eddie's father Spencer recognizes Ruben, the man who killed his wife twenty years ago.
Eddie witnesses a shooting of another gang member by a fellow officer, but when an internal affair investigates, Eddie isn't sure how to handle. Meanwhile, Lizzie gets another letter from Boa begging her to come visit him in jail, but when she does, Lizzie gets in over her head trying to help.
Charles is injured in a car crash. A gang member threatens Tay so Eddie tries to protect him.
