The remake kicks off as wide-eyed Oregon transplant Violet Foster (Ashlee Simpson-Wentz) arrives in L.A. to find a dead body floating in the courtyard pool at 4616 Melrose Place. Ella learns that her job is in jeopardy unless she lands a huge client, so she sets her sights on a major actor (Ben Milliken); Lauren agrees to go on another date in exchange for money; and surveillance footage reveals that seemingly innocent Violet may be hiding something.
Jonah is furious when he finds out that Riley hasn't yet told anyone about their engagement; Ella asks Jonah to fill in when a music-video director bails at the last minute; David accuses Michael of being involved in Sydney's death.
Jane Mancini (Josie Bissett), returns to Melrose Place and stirs things up after inheriting the building from her sister Sydney. She blackmails Ella, who turns to David for help. Meanwhile, Det. Rodriguez has some questions for Violet, and Lauren takes her side job to the next level.
The police bring Ella in for questioning following a tip from Jane (Josie Bissett). Meanwhile, Jonah's accused of stealing a diamond necklace from a client, but he later learns David is keeping a similar necklace in his apartment. And Violet sabotages another employee in an attempt to get closer to Auggie.
Riley is discovered by a fashion designer who wants her to be the face of his new denim campaign, much to his publicist Ella's horror. Elsewhere, Violet fakes an illness to orchestrate a meeting with Dr. Michael Mancini; and Lauren takes a job on a yacht, but she panics when she sees David board the boat.
Former Melrose Place resident Jo Reynolds (Daphne Zuniga) photographs Riley for the Anton V campaign; Jonah and a sexy film executive (Jenna Dewan) hit it off and she asks him to join her for a late-night drink; Lauren learns David's secret.
Riley helps Jonah film a wedding and the two have a huge fight on the job; David begins to think he's responsible for Sydney's death; Ella confronts Lauren about the late nights she's been working.
Police search Auggie's apartment after learning his blood was on the weapon used to kill Sydney. Elsewhere, Ella and Jonah pretend they're engaged to save face at a work event; and David goes behind Michael's back to have a secret playdate with his little brother.
Heather Locklear returns as Amanda Woodward, owner of the WPK agency. She promptly fires half the staff, including Caleb, and warns Ella that her future with the company depends on the success of the Anton V launch party. Elsewhere, David asks Lauren out on a date; and Auggie finally succumbs to Violet's flirtatious ways.
Amanda (Heather Locklear) moves into Sydney's penthouse and takes an immediate interest in David, but his relationship with Lauren continues to grow. Meanwhile, Ella uses her persuasive abilities to land Jonah a new job, and Amanda and Michael reunite.
Riley and Jonah want to elope in Las Vegas, but several distractions---including Ella and Auggie---prevent the day from going as planned. Meanwhile, Amanda and Violet bond over Sydney, but Amanda has an ulterior motive; and Lauren turns to David when she gets in trouble with one of her clients.
