In the premiere of this mockumentary-style sitcom chronicling the unusual kinship of the extended Pritchett clan, patriarch Jay (Ed O'Neill) adjusts to his preteen stepson's views on romance, while his adult son, Mitchell, searches for a way to tell his relatives about his adopted baby from Vietnam with his partner, Cameron.

Phil tries to teach Luke a lesson in responsibility; Mitchell and Cameron sign Lily up for Mommy & Me class; Jay and Manny take time out for a father-and-son bonding experiment.

A reluctant Jay takes Phil on a model-airplane excursion; Gloria goes shopping with Alex after dropping off her son for a playdate with Luke; and Claire and Manny get to know one another as siblings.

Episode 4. The Incident (Air Date: NA)

Episode 5. Coal Digger (Air Date: NA)

The Pritchett clan gathers at Jay and Gloria's for a barbecue, but a previous incident between Manny and Luke at school creates a dilemma for their mothers and the whole family.

On the first day of school, Phil and Claire have a misunderstanding of the meaning of their empty house, and Jay and Gloria don't see eye-to-eye on Manny's outfit. Meanwhile, Lily's minor incident becomes a major issue for Mitchell and Cameron.

Episode 7. En Garde (Air Date: NA)

The Pritchetts get behind Manny's interest in fencing, but Jay's fatherly pride stirs up unpleasant memories for Mitchell. Meanwhile, Phil zeros in on Luke's hidden talents---whatever they may be.

Claire hatches an anniversary surprise for Phil by hiring one of their favorite musicians (Edward Norton) to give a private performance. Meanwhile, Mitchell and Cameron plan a night out with a fun-loving friend (Elizabeth Banks).

Episode 9. Fizbo (Air Date: NA)

Cameron makes an appearance as Fizbo the Clown when Phil and Claire pull out all the stops for Luke's birthday bash.
