Lu and Dana take arms against insurance when a woman is having her disability money withheld from her. Dana steps into an immigration conflict when she learns that the parents have sexually assailed the daughter.

Dana proposes to anxious parents-in-waiting an in utero surgery that would correct a birth defect but the news isn't well received by both people. Lu's schizophrenic patient faces murder charges.

Dana is asked by an addict for clean needles and is faced with the moral dilemma of whether or not to provide them. Lu tries to convince a deaf woman and child to start using hearing implants, but the deaf husband thinks that would only serve to separate and not unite the family.

A virgin mother-to-be visits Rittenhouse at Christmas. Lu diagnoses a staffer fired for drinking at work with Lou Gehrig's disease. Marc develops a bond with a runaway.

Dana is caught between a husband who wants to keep his wife alive on life support and a mother who wants her child to die with dignity. Lu is asked to prescribe under the table medication for an autistic child.

Dana tends to a woman who has pretended to be a man in order to follow her calling as a priest. Lu's prescription for Demerol goes unfilled when her patient can't get a high priced drug as the pharmacy fears theft.

Robert's wife Susan and Lana's blind date both end up in the ER at Rittenhouse. A pregnant woman's baby is stolen.

A mother goes on hunger strike to try to save the life of her son. An accident in the OR causes Dana to question her place at Rittenhouse.
