Episode 1. The Hero Heart (Air Date: 06/15/2003)

Andy tries to aid a person in need of a new heart, even though they don't have insurance. Andy feels the pressure of her decision to separate from her abusive husband. Lu struggles to maintain when her boyfriend is seriously wounded to the head and she puts him on a respirator.

Episode 2. Emergency Contacts (Air Date: 06/22/2003)

Lu's rapist comes to the emergency room in dire need of life-saving surgery. Peter breaks the doctor/patient wall and starts to have feelings for a patient with a terminal disease.

Episode 3. Heartbeats & Deadbeats (Air Date: 06/29/2003)

Lu seeks a marrow donor for a child stricken with leukemia. A woman's heart troubles both Andy and Morton as they try to save her life.

Episode 4. Rash Decisions (Air Date: 07/06/2003)

Andy works her medicinal flair on a television chef who developed a rash. When Lu's neighbor dies, Lu begins to feel on-edge.

Episode 5. Breathing Lessons (Air Date: 07/13/2003)

Lu believes that a girl's medical problems are being complicated by her parent's divorce. Andy tries to help two girls cope with their mother's condition.

Episode 6. Misdiagnosis Murder (Air Date: 07/20/2003)

Lu comes to a crisis of ideals when an abused patient goes missing and Lu has to consider breaking the doctor/patient confidentiality. Andy believes that a fellow doctors male superiority complex may have resulted in a patient's death.

Episode 7. Vaccinations (Air Date: 07/27/2003)

When the staff receives voluntary smallpox vaccinations, it endangers the children in child care at the hospital. Lu is frustrated when she finds out that Sullivan's interns practice on patients without proper consent.

Episode 8. Temperature's Rising (Air Date: 08/10/2003)

A father left a baby in his car in the hot summer heat and Andy races to save the child's life. Andy reveals to her daughters her new relationship. The hospital and city deal with prolonged heat.

Episode 9. Speculum for a Heavyweight (Air Date: 08/17/2003)

Andy faces the divorce from her husband and a persistant cough, the latter of which is due to a lung infection. Lu tries to stop a patient from re-entering the boxing ring when she's convinced her next trip in could very well be her last.

Episode 10. Bad Liver (Air Date: 09/07/2003)

Lu helps a patient get a liver transplant. Andy and Dr. Morton think about their relationship's progression. A paramedic is accidentally pricked by an IV drug user needle.

Episode 11. Maternal Mirrors (Air Date: 09/14/2003)

Lu and Andy get into a heated argument over a patient's death. Andy develops trust problems with her eldest daughter. Peter calls ethics into question when Andy and Morton perform an operation using a chimpanzee's heart.

Episode 12. Jeaneology (Air Date: 10/05/2003)

The poisoning of two people from different walks of life puzzle Andy and Lu until they discover the one thing they have in common -- their pants. Because of an illegible prescription written by Lu, the staff is asked to take a penmanship class. Nick deals with an Amish patient on Rum Springa.

Episode 13. Skin (Air Date: 10/12/2003)

A man with questionable business investments offers the center money when Andy saves his daughter's life. Lu tries to help a woman get beyond her mastectomy emotionally and learn to love herself again, opening up the potential for others to love her.

Episode 14. Love and Let Die (Air Date: 11/02/2003)

Lu tries to help a family cope with the imminent death of one of its members. Andy finally meets Milo's parents when he invites her to dinner.

Episode 15. Coming Clean (Air Date: 11/09/2003)

Andy assists a patient with amnesia. A pregnant woman is confronted about drug usage even as Andy tries to help an old woman kickh her prescription habit.

Episode 16. Prescriptions (Air Date: 12/07/2003)

Lu debates her position on informing patients of an antismoking trial. Andy consoles a patient through bypass surgery.

Episode 17. Seize the Day (Air Date: 12/14/2003)

A dying girl in a spelling bee competition decides to purposefully lose so that someone who can benefit in the long term will win the scholarship.

Episode 18. Ears, Ho's and Threat (Air Date: 01/11/2004)

Andy deals with two young women who request different body altering surgeries. One woman is a young Indian whose parents want to improve her for an arranged marriage. The other woman wants to regain her virginity. Lu helps an older Alzheimer's patient.

Episode 19. Weights and Measures (Air Date: 01/18/2004)

Lu helps a woman deal with her HIV positive status. Lu learns that her son's friend is suffering abuse. An overweight couple arrive at the clinic seeking help.

Episode 20. Real World Rittenhouse (Air Date: 01/25/2004)

Lu and Ben Sanderson start off on a bad foot. Andy questions sterilization. A sick girl comes into the clinic with the E. Coli bacteria.

Episode 21. Identity Crisis (Air Date: 02/08/2004)

The staff worries about their continued employment even as divisions such as newborn screening tests suffer budget cuts. Andy treats a patient who turns out to be on the lam.

Episode 22. Quarantine (Air Date: 02/15/2004)

Andy and Jesse have a mother-daughter blow up. A possible SARS patient comes in for care and the hospital is quarantined.
